MICS
MICS measures the impact of citizen science
Developing metrics and instruments to evaluate citizen science impacts on the environment and society, as well as science, the economy and governance.
The Problem
Citizen science can have positive (and even negative impacts) on society, the environment and the economy. There are many different ways to assess impact, however, these are often complicated and time-consuming.
Aims
MICS aimed to understand and simplify how to assess the impact of citizen science.
Approach
The MICS platform provides an easy-to-use tool as an entry into the world of impact assessment. The platform uses a set of 200 questions with pre-defined answers which users can pick from, and provides links to helpful resources as well as recommendations to help increase the impact of the projects.
Earthwatch’s role
Earthwatch coordinated the MICS project.
