EU-Citizen.Science
The Platform for Sharing, Initiating, and Learning Citizen Science in Europe
EU-Citizen.Science is an online platform for sharing knowledge, tools, training and resources for citizen science – by the community, for the community.
The Problem
Citizen science is a growing field of research and practice, generating new knowledge and understanding through the collaboration of citizens in scientific research. The rise of citizen science as a domain of innovation is hindered by its heterogeneity, which leads to a European citizen science environment that is fragmented and not fully coordinated.
Aims
The vision for the EU-Citizen.Science platform is to serve as a Knowledge Hub, in aid of the mainstreaming of citizen science, and build on the growing impact of citizens participating in research across the full range of scientific enquiry.
Approach
EU-Citizen.Science accomplishes this by supporting the sharing of knowledge, know-how, and experience between anyone doing or wanting to do citizen science. On the platform you can browse and search for resources that are useful for planning and running citizen science projects, training resources and materials about the practice of citizen science, and citizen science projects to learn from the experience of others and collaborate.
The European Citizen Science (ECS) project – which currently builds on the work of EU-Citizen.Science – has the overall objective to widen and strengthen the citizen science community in Europe through capacity building and awareness raising activities
Our role and how the project relates to our work
Earthwatch was proud to contribute our citizen-science expertise to the development of this hugely useful platform.
