London Marathon 2023: Support Stephen!

Much of Earthwatch Europe’s work wouldn’t have the impact it does without public support, including the wonderful fundraisers who have run (or walked) the London Marathon for us. Hear from our marathon runner Stephen why he chose to join our team this year.

Have you taken part in the London Marathon, or any similar fundraising events, before?
Yes, I’ve run London Marathon twice (though the last time was many years ago) as well as the Great North Run. I also took part in the London to Paris Bike Ride and the ?tape du Tour.
What’s your proudest fundraising moment?
I think the London to Paris challenge is the highlight. It’s a tough, multi-day event that requires a lot of commitment and I think that was reflected in the generosity of those who sponsored me.
Why did you decide to run the London Marathon for Earthwatch Europe this year?
I’ve always been aware of human impacts on the planet and have tried to do what I can for the environment in my own small ways. For instance, I’ve just replaced my car with an electric model. However, the pace of climate change acceleration has become more obvious in recent years, and there’s only so much individuals can do alone. Therefore I wanted to support a charity that can mobilise whole communities and influence policy makers to take significant actions to help preserve the environment for future generations.

- ?30 could put homes for wildlife such as hedgehogs, frogs and birds in our communities.
