Earthwatch at 50: Andy Denker’s story

Andy has always been interested in nature, and having spent most of his career being based inside a factory, always looked to grasp any opportunity to engage with the wild.

In 2002, Andy travelled to Puerto Rico’s Rainforest where he took part in a project to conserve the country’s endemic wildlife. His experiences inspired him to join a ‘Sea Turtle conservation’ expedition to Costa Rica two years later, moving eggs to where they would have the best chance of survival.

He has returned to Costa Rica three times since. Closer to home Andy is pleased to keep involved with conservation:

“I am now retired and volunteer for Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust two days a week, getting hands on with fencing, meadow restoration and tree planting. I’m pleased to be leaving a legacy.”
