Sustainable Development Goals Earthwatch Challenge - Earthwatch Europe

Sustainable Development Goals Earthwatch Challenge

Accept the challenge. Raise awareness. Encourage sustainability.

At Earthwatch Europe we are committed to making a positive impact on the world we live in! As part of this, last year saw the launch of our internal Sustainable Development Goals challenge. And we’re bringing back a new and improved version for 2019!

The SDG challenge was launched in 2018 to raise employee awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encourage individual action to live more sustainably at home and at work.

– Alice Oldfield, 2018 organiser

The challenge aims to raise awareness of the 17 urgent actions at the heart of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and encourage staff to be more sustainable by identifying tangible individual actions that everyone can take. All while having fun and creating strong working relationships.

The year, our staff have been sorted into four houses, given house names, a captain, strict rules and four, month-long challenges will be set. Each challenge will have a clear link between at least 1 of the SDGs and a strategic focus area of Earthwatch. The houses are encouraged to work creatively and collaboratively in order to win house points and prizes!

Earthwatch Europe engages with the SDGs in much of our work and this initiative allows our staff to have a bit of fun and understand, in a hands-on way, how we can all contribute to making the goals a reality.

The first challenge, for Spring, will focus on water! Based around SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 14 (life below water) and World Water Day 2019’s theme of “leaving no one behind”, the houses have a month to come up with weird, wonderful, watery ways of increasing awareness and winning points!

The Kingfishers, Starfish, Foxes and Bumblebees have been prepped and are ready to get stuck in with this watery challenge! You can follow their progress with the hashtag #SDG6challenge on twitter.
