Set up a water butt

If you have space, setting up a water butt is an important way to help the environment as it will save water, support preventions against flooding, and even help reduce water pollution.

By using more rainwater in our outdoor space, we can all help make our mains water resources go further. Rainwater can also be better for plants than tap water!

Try adding a water butt to your space. Some models can divert rainwater from gutters to increase how much rainwater you save. You can get slim versions for small spaces.

How to set up your water butt

Position the butt in the shade to slow the growth of bacteria. You can make sure things stay fresh by cleaning it out once per year.

Make sure you use the lid! This will stop wildlife falling in, prevent algae from growing and help to keep mosquitoes away.
