The Ealing Beaver Project: Water testing after the beaver reintroduction in London
Added: 28th November 2024
FreshWater Watch is our global movement of volunteers who test the water quality of their local rivers, lakes, ponds and streams. The data they collect can be used to fight for real change. Hear from one of our community groups, which was set up by members of The Ealing Beaver Project in London.
FreshWater Watch and the Ealing Beaver Project
The Ealing Beaver Project is a community-led initiative based in Greenford, West London. In October 2023, a family of five beavers was translocated and released at Paradise Fields. This is now London’s first fully-accessible urban beaver reintroduction site. The project was born out of a vision to reintroduce beavers to an urban setting, enhancing biodiversity and engaging the community in wildlife conservation.
Led by Elena Ares, a group of Ealing Beaver Project volunteers decided to join our FreshWater Watch network in order to document the positive impact that beavers can have on water quality. Discover more in the video.
From 3-10 December 2024, you can double the hope for our rivers by supporting us in the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge. During this week, your donation will be matched and doubled, making an even bigger difference!
“When we found out about FreshWater Watch, it was one way we could get local people involved, volunteers like me who don’t have much experience doing the science. You get some fresh air, you’re helping the environment in some way… It’s definitely something I would recommend!”
Amira, Ealing Beaver Project volunteer
