Alan oversees our volunteer-led research on woodlands, carbon and climate change impacts, using two research sites in the UK (Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire and Mill Haft, Staffordshire). He is interested in understanding how forests are responding to our changing environment, so that they can be made more resilient for the future
Alan started his PhD on air pollution impacts to heathlands in 2005 at Imperial College London. He has since completed postdoctoral field research in Australian eucalyptus forest, tropical rainforest and Arctic tundra. Alan found that working with different types of people and explaining science was one of the most rewarding aspects of his career – and so chose to take up this position with Earthwatch.
