Ed Green

Trustee

Ed Green (elected to the Board in 2016) is currently the CEO of Warwickshire Wildlife trust and has been since 2014. WWT’s charitable activities occur across Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull. Their vision is a county where wildlife flourishes in our countryside and cities; where children grow up inspired by the sights and sounds of nature; where people live happier, healthier lives. Enriching landscapes and people’s lives with wildlife is therefore their core business, directing the care of the 70 nature reserves covering 1,000ha and their species, campaigning, education and community work. In this role Ed is also a Non-Executive Director of Middlemarch Environmental Ltd, one of the foremost ecological consultancies in the UK, and Wildlife Fundraising Central Ltd, a recruitment agency co-owned by seven Wildlife Trusts.

Previously Ed was CEO of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust for just over six years where he led the development of organisational strategy, challenging and inspiring staff and volunteers to be creative and to strive for continual improvements in performance. Prior to Derbyshire Ed was Head of the Marine and Coastal Programme for UNEP-WCMC in Cambridge where he was responsible for ensuring that the marine and coastal work supported the two functions of generating authoritative biodiversity information for the world’s decision makers and supporting national governments to fulfil their responsibilities under various international biodiversity related conventions.

Ed’s work has been varied but his early love of diving led to a lifelong interest in the underwater world – he’s been a merchant seaman, teacher, conservation and research manager. Before starting this varied work Ed gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and gained his PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of London.
