TCS London Marathon 2022 - Support Claire!
Much of Earthwatch’s work wouldn’t have the impact it does without public support, including the wonderful fundraisers who have run (or walked) the London Marathon for us. Hear from our virtual marathon participant Claire why she chose to join our team again this year.
Have you taken part in the London Marathon (or a similar fundraising event) before?
I walked the Virtual London Marathon last year (2021) in aid of Earthwatch. I have also completed the Macmillan South Coast Mighty Hike (26.3 miles Brighton to Eastbourne) twice and I have done an Ultra Challenge in aid of Cancer Research.
What’s your proudest fundraising challenge memory?
My proudest fundraising challenge memory, that applies to all the events I have completed, is that I did all my training on my own and managed to keep myself motivated. Out doing training walks in all weather with a determination to get fit and be able to complete the marathon walks and raise as much money as possible.
Why did you decide to run for Earthwatch Europe this year?
I have participated in 15 Earthwatch projects since 2006 and was due to join their Amazon Riverboat Exploration in 2020. Due to the pandemic, this was cancelled and I haven't been able to join another project since. My main reason to walk for Earthwatch was so I can still support this charity that I am very passionate about.
Why should other people take part?
Whether you walk (like me) or run the Virtual London Marathon, it is a fantastic day to be part of. It is an opportunity to get fit both physically and mentally, to raise money for a great organisation and help them tackle environmental issues.
How can people support you with your fundraising challenge?
I appreciate any donation big or small via my JustGiving fundraising page.
- £10 could buy 10 trees to be planted in a Tiny Forest.
- £30 could put homes for wildlife such as hedgehogs, frogs and birds in our communities.
- £50 could buy equipment for schoolchildren so that we can inspire our scientists of the future.
Inspired to take part?
The virtual TCS London Marathon gives you the freedom to take on 26.2 miles your way, on the route of your choice, at any time from 00:00 to 23:59:59 BST on Sunday 2 October 2022 – the same day as the mass event in London.
You can do it with friends or on your own, from home or away, in stages or all at once – it’s up to you!
