About the Earthwatch Neville Shulman Awards

Earthwatch is an environmental charity with science at its heart. We connect people with the natural world, monitor the health of our natural resources, and help people take action to have a positive impact, building on half a century of bringing people, science and nature together to create environmental knowledge and action.

The Neville Shulman Earthwatch Awards in 2022 are open to candidates developing projects that contribute towards people taking action to protect our planet. We are looking for projects which deliver value to communities, invest in the next generation and strengthen conservation outcomes.

 In particular we are looking for applications from individuals which address one or more of the following:

  • The impacts of climate change
  • The loss of wildlife and habitats
  • Nature in Cities
  • Freshwater Pollution

Nominator Details

*Your nominator will need to provide you with support and guidance throughout the duration of your project. They should also know you and your work/ or area of study. Your nominator will need to submit a short letter of support outlining why they think you should receive the award, how it will benefit you and the communities with whom you work, and how they are able to offer you support and guidance throughout the duration of your project. 3. We’d like to understand more about the project you want to develop

4.b. As well as addressing environmental challenges we are looking for projects which have impact on the ground. We want your projects to:

  1. Deliver value to communities – projects should be relevant to and inclusive of, local communities. Projects co-developed with local communities will be looked on favourably.
  2. Invest in the next generation - include education and engagement opportunities to build skills, knowledge and confidence of future leaders.
  3. Strengthen conservation outcomes –through dissemination of research results and engagement with relevant local stakeholders and which lead to action being taken on the ground.

Please provide details of how you would use a maximum grant of up to GBP 4,000 to carry out your project.
