In a poll conducted by YouGov on behalf of Oxfam in 2018, more than two-thirds of teachers polled said there should be more teaching in UK schools about climate change, while three-quarters did not feel they had received adequate training to educate students on the subject. Around 70% agreed radical change was needed to make the education system “fit for the times we live in”.
Teach Earth, trainee teacher programme seeks to address this challenge by building a learning programme that both compliments and enhances the initial teacher training experience. By providing learning on key environmental challenges, outdoor learning and connection to nature, we aim to create a cohort of educators who are empowerd, inspired and prepared to engage the next generation in positive action for the planet both now and in years to come.
Teach Earth – trainee teacher programme is an 18-month programme of environmental education which complements Initial Teacher Training across the country. The programme includes interactive online and in-college training sessions led by our expert Learning Team. We can also offer Teach Earth in the field residential teams and provision of in-school student workshops for your trainees.
Modules include:
An introduction to outdoor & environmental education
Biodiversity
Climate Change
Sustainability
Freshwater Watch
Plastic Rivers
Naturehood
Tiny Forests
Community Changemakers
Citizen Science
All modules are supported with educator resources, videos, student activities and lesson guides. To find out more about our offer, please use the inquiry form.

How you can get involved
GETTING STARTED
First step, get in touch. Our Education Team are very happy to talk through the programme with you, to see how we can create a partnership that works for you and your trainees. Depending on funding, we can then offer a taster online learning session so you can really get to know what we are offering.
BUILDING THE PARTNERSHIP
Once the partnership has been formed, we can work with you to create a timeline for our learning programme, as well as provide supporting resources for you and your students to get you started on your Teach Earth journey. We continually seek funding both independently and in collaboration with partners to ensure our programme remains free to access.

Children are spending less and less time outdoors, becoming increasingly disconnected from nature. We’re instilling in them a love of the outdoors and laying the foundations for a more sustainable future.

Our citizen science model lets teachers and children be part of science that is relevant and genuinely makes a difference to the planet.
3
Our approach uniquely targets hearts and minds. We show not only how science works and how it’s fun but also why it’s important for the health of the planet and our well-being.
