Born and raised in Kenya, Nigel Winser’s upbringing instilled in him a lifelong love of nature and conservation. Having studied Life Sciences, Nigel felt that his own values and approach to field conservation were a perfect fit for the Earthwatch ethos.
“For a better tomorrow we need to understand the science of nature today,” says Nigel.
Nigel led Earthwatch Europe as Executive Director from 2005, overseeing important international developments in the organisation and later became Executive Vice President for Earthwatch International, headquartered in Boston. Nigel worked previously with the Royal Geographical Society as its Deputy Director and regularly supported Earthwatch during his time there.
During his time at Earthwatch he was instrumental in setting up the Earthwatch India office in 2008 and forging links with the Middle East. He also established Earthwatch ‘observatories’ around the world to measure the impact of climate change on the world’s forests as part of the HSBC Climate Partnership.
“It was a privilege to work with remarkable teams across the world. In my ten years I gained as much as I gave, and I am forever indebted to the remarkable individuals I met both in the offices and in the field.”
