SC Johnson Donates to Earthwatch Europe and STEM Learning’s Project ENTHUSE to Support Children Learning in the UK

SC Johnson, an industry-leading manufacturer of household cleaning and other consumer and professional products, is donating over £130,000 to Earthwatch Europe and STEM Learning’s Project ENTHUSE to support child education in the UK.

“We have a long history of helping foster access to education in the communities we operate in and are proud to partner with charities like Earthwatch and STEM Learning in the UK,” said Alan VanderMolen, Chief Communications Officer of SC Johnson. “Whether it’s investing in sustainability education or STEM, we believe that supporting child learning can equip and enable future generations with the tools they need for continued success.”

The donation will see Earthwatch work with more than 200 teachers and 6,000 children in schools across the UK to raise awareness about freshwater pollution and how to reduce plastic waste. SC Johnson previously worked with Earthwatch to support the creation of a Plastics Calculator, helping communities and SC Johnson employees measure their plastic footprint and receive tips on how to reduce their impact. The calculator continues to be used in Earthwatch education programmes including this year’s project with SC Johnson.

“We’re thrilled to continue partnering with SC Johnson this year to build awareness and reduce plastic pollution in our communities,” said Caroline Shepherd, Programme Manager at Earthwatch. “Empowering educators to help students understand their impact on the environment and what they can do to protect it is an important part of creating a more sustainable future.”

Support for STEM Learning will reach 12,000 underserved students through Project ENTHUSE, which focusses on teacher development and creating engaging activities for students to bridge the learning gap in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

“SC Johnson is helping us to change the lives of thousands of young people, inspiring them to fulfil their potential in STEM subjects, while also future-proofing the UK economy by building a pipeline of crucial skills,” said Yvonne Baker, Chief Executive of STEM Learning. “These partnerships give employers invaluable opportunities in terms of developing the skills of its current workforce, identifying, and nurturing future talent, and working with STEM Learning to set the agenda in terms of STEM education in the UK.”
