We are delighted to announce that Steve Andrews has been appointed our new Chief Executive. Steve will take over from Earthwatch Europe’s Directors of Strategic Planning, Naomi Matthiessen and Isabella Murfin, who took over during the interim position.
Steve is a social entrepreneur who has led non-profits and not-just-for-profits for the last 30 years. He has launched environmental start-ups and led organisations through rapid growth. Following a career advising UK non-profits on how to grow their supporter bases, Steve turned his attention to selling clean energy solutions in rural Africa. As CEO of SolarAid, he led SunnyMoney, SolarAid’s social enterprise, from humble beginnings to becoming the largest last mile distributor of solar lights on the African continent; and the first to sell over 1 million lights. Now, after four years of running a clean energy start-up in Kenya, Steve is joining Earthwatch Europe as our new CEO.
Steve Andrews says: “I am really thrilled to be taking up this position. The Trustees of Earthwatch have huge ambitions for the charity so I am honoured to be given the task of leading this talented team to deliver them. Our planet faces multiple environmental crises. Earthwatch Europe has urgent work to do.”
Lucian J. Hudson, Chair, Earthwatch Europe, says: “I am delighted that Earthwatch Europe has appointed Steve Andrews as its new Chief Executive. Steve joins us at a most exciting and important point in our history, and has the drive, creativity and flair to build on our current success and take Earthwatch Europe to a new level of impact, influence and profile. I would also like to express my deep thanks to Bella Murfin and Naomi Matthiessen for serving as interim CEOs and the collective Executive Team for managing a very effective transition since Steve Gray left us earlier this year. Earthwatch at its best is a team effort, and we can all draw inspiration from the collaboration achieved across Earthwatch by its staff, partners and supporters.”
Welcome to the team, Steve!
