Earthwatch at 50: Ian Swingland’s story
Ian has worn various Earthwatch hats over the years and attended the pivotal meeting at the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) where discussions on the formation of Earthwatch Europe were held.
Amongst other achievements, Ian is well known for founding DICE (the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology) which won The Queens Anniversary Prize 2019 for excellence and what is now called the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust. Ian was awarded the title Trustee Emeritus, in recognition of over 10 years dedicated service to Earthwatch.

Earthwatch has inspired so many and achieved so much with a transatlantic, indeed global, partnership there is better hope for the planets survival for the next 50 years!
Ian also introduced his cousin Charles to Earthwatch. Charles has been a generous supporter of Earthwatch over the years, both in terms of financial support and also by playing a full role as an advisor.
