Double the hope for our rivers this Christmas
It’s the most precious resource on our planet. It gives life to everything on Earth. And it is under threat.
Our rivers, lakes, and streams are the lifeblood of our planet. They sustain ecosystems, provide drinking water, and offer places for recreation. Yet, here in the UK, these vital waterbodies are under threat from pollution.
Support our Christmas appeal during 3-10 December and help us fight for healthy fresh water.
For one week only, your donation will be doubled thanks to the Big Give Christmas Challenge. That’s twice the impact in our fight for fresh water. It’s double the difference for our wildlife.
Simply donate on the Big Give website, using the button below, between 3 – 10 December 2024 and your donation will be matched and doubled.
In the September Great UK WaterBlitz, we showed that over 60% of the fresh water tested had unacceptable levels of nutrient pollution. Further analysis has revealed a cocktail of chemical pollution damaging our precious waterways.
Citizen science is a powerful tool to combat this crisis. By empowering people to monitor water quality, we can expose pollution hotspots, hold polluters accountable, and create data-driven change.
During 3-10 December, we are aiming to raise £12,000 which will be doubled to £24,000, funding 4,000 water testing kits for the next Great UK WaterBlitz. Please help us reach that target.
“For me, taking part in the WaterBlitz has been a completely new way of connecting with and learning about my local river. I’m a not a scientist, but I realised I can still help gather data.
It’s really important to know about the invisible pollutants that might be affecting our rivers even when they look healthy, to make sure we can give our waterways the care they need and prevent sources of pollution wherever we can.”
Elly Platt, Great UK WaterBlitz participant
