Discover the species that live in our seas and find out how to protect them
The UK has the fourth longest coastline in Europe. With our vastly diverse beaches and species, it’s an ideal ‘living laboratory’ for understanding our changing environments. Over 2,500 volunteers have surveyed more than 1,800 locations across the UK.
Capturing our Coast volunteers collected more than 240,000 datapoints. Information about our beautiful coastlines is vital if we’re to protect them for the future. Scientists could never carry out this research alone.
Capturing Our Coast data is being given directly to decision-makers and managers of Marine Conservation Zones, as we share our findings in a joined-up effort to benefit the marine environment.
